Doctorate studies in Social Psychology, together with the corresponding previous Official Research Master in Social Psychology, make up the Doctorate Programme in Social Psychology. This Doctorate programme is completely adapted to the new EHEA framework and enables the official title of Doctor to be obtained.

Quality recognition award

This Doctorate programme was awarded the prestigious Quality Recognition Award in 2003-2004 by the ministry of Education and Science (MEC) and it has been renewed up to the present academic year (MCD-2006 00371).

This award means that the students and lecturers in the programme can make applications for mobility grants, as well as other benefits in different public competitions.

Presentation

The offer at the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona of a postgraduate programme in social psychology forms part of the transformation process experienced by the social sciences in recent decades. Among other things, it reflects the critical directions that have redefined the practice of contemporary social psychology: Post-structuralism, Rhetorical and discursive expression, Social constructionalism, Performativity, etc.

Since it was established, the spirit and the purpose of the programme has been to analyse and explore the type of intelligibility of social reality and of phenomena and psychosocial processes in their epistemological, theoretical and methodological dimensions, that lead to new conceptualisations of contemporary social psychology.

The Doctorate in Social Psychology is made up of programme aimed at the production and development of new knowledge in the field of social psychology, and by extension the social sciences. Students will make contributions to knowledge at the borders between social psychology and related fields, as well as their application. The learning process for this programme is therefore characterised by new contributions by students in the field of social psychology or a related area.

Objectives and justification

The Doctorate in Social Psychology culminates in the production of a doctoral thesis. The objectives of the thesis are:

• To train researchers in social psychology with a high level of knowledge and competence
• To promote, encourage and stimulate the development of innovative lines of research that respond to the specific areas of critical social psychology frameworks
• Instruct and offer teaching staff and researchers the capacity to carry out their activity in teaching and research tasks based on the abovementioned frameworks
• Establish and encourage exchange, mobility and interrelationships between teaching staff and students from different countries and universities
